Craft activity: My Spirit Tree

You will need a large cardstock or construction paper, colourful markers, a scissors and glue.
You will also need a small piece of drawing paper with the words of “(your name)’s Spirit Tree”.
Okay, you have all that ready? Let’s start making our tree!

First step, get your large card stock paper, fold it into half then using your marker, draw on the shape of a tree with the branches sticking out. Make sure your tree trunk is thick and so are your branches.
Try to draw large branches and just about 4 or 5 will do. Once done, cut out your tree drawing, making sure you are cutting through both pages of your folded brown paper.

Once you have cut it out, you should have 2 pieces of tree cutouts. Keep them stacked together and fold it into half vertically. Then, grab your glue and apply it to one side of the folded tree and stick it down to the other tree cutout. Leave the other side. You do not need to glue that part down. So after sticking it, you can try opening up your tree cutouts and it should have 3 sides and when you place it on the table, it stands!

Now that your tree cutout is done, we are going to add some details to make it look more like a tree trunk. So what you do is, take out your dark brown or black marker and start drawing lines along your tree trunk. You can also draw the lines a little more wavy to make it look like the grooves of the trunk.

Okay, onto our final step. Remember your small slip of drawing paper with the words of (your name’s) spirit tree? Now, you can grab some markers or colour pencil and decorate it a little.
All you have to do now, is to grab your glue and stick this slip to the trunk of your tree and you are ready to paste on your fruits of the spirit each week! Done!
