Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Now to have a sanctified faith living, these verses tells us 2 things. Firstly, do not deceive yourselves. And secondly, sow to the spirit.

Shedding Light On Our Spiritual Conscience

Brothers and sisters, for those of us who have known Jesus, we all have a spiritual conscience in us. However, due to worldly noises and influences or even our own sins and desires, it can get covered and overshadowed. Like we can say that we have heard the sermons on Sunday, yet when we go back into our living, we say or do things that we already know may not please the Lord. This is actually a form of self deception, knowing God’s direction, yet turning away from it.
So this verse in Galatians reminds us that we need to constantly shed light and monitor the condition of our spiritual conscience.

Now, note that spiritual conscience is different from human conscience, as one is build on the foundation of God’s truth, while the latter conscience is based on human standards and values that can be misinformed or subjective.

Spiritual Conscience, as John MacArthur says, is “a built-in warning system” that induces an inner dialogue within us to tell us what we already know about the truth of God while in varying circumstances, or especially in situations where we have to make certain decisions. And similar to pain sensors, when we submit to our spiritual conscience, we feel relief and peace. While if we go against it, we can feel guilt, shame and accusations. Now the main cause of us being led into self deception is ultimately because we chose our own will over the will of God. In other words, we turn a blind eye or downplay the nudges of our spiritual conscience, to satisfy our own desires. Now the Lord has already told us, “God is not mocked.” So let us not be selective about what we want to follow and what we prefer to do by our own desires. If we choose to be blinded by the deceptions of our heart and thoughts, it will be revealed to us in certain areas of our lives. Like in terms of finances, interpersonal relationships, and such. We must see that the Lord wants us to shed light and awaken our spiritual conscience again.

Sow To Our Spiritual Conscience

Now as the verse mentioned, we reap what we sow. We have to know that sins and strongholds in our lives have the ability to suppress our spiritual conscience. And especially when we keeping falling into sins, whether subtle ones or the bigger ones, we are repeatedly training ourselves to deny the voice of spiritual conscience, and naturally it becomes a reflex to ignore. Paul said in Romans 1:21,24-25, ”For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.” This may sound like very strong words, but it shows us the colossal damage of giving up ourselves easily to self deception daily, even though we cannot see the effects now. Do we see that we are falling into certain destructive patterns in our living now? Causing us to be more and more indifferent or bringing us away from our relationship with God? Or are we tweaking certain parts of our faith living to fulfil our own desires at times? I can say yes to a few of those questions myself because we know sin is always knocking our “doors”, every chance it can get.

So to really keep our spiritual conscience awakened, protected and untainted, we have to constantly build it up to be stronger by taking in the revealed Word of God. We must face the Holy Spirit and seek for revelations and honest introspections of our spiritual state. As we do so, we will become more and more sensitive to catch convictions of the Lord and discern it from our own desires. As we truly turn to God, He will remind, guide us through our conscience to will and do what is right by Him. But again, before we get the act right, we have to get our spiritual conscience enlightened first.

Flowing Into Our Living

Now as we continue to be more knowing and sensitive to the spiritual conscience’s call, we will see it flow into our living. The way we live, the way we think and make choices. Naturally, when we are intimate with the Lord’s leading, we will have wisdom and surety in our decisions. We will do all things always going back to the purpose of why God has placed us there. We will choose things that does not make us lose the vision of loving God and loving men. Sometimes, when I do my work, it can get repetitive, especially things like processing videos or doing some powerpoint edits. But when I go back to the glorious value of what I do, for the Lord, for His people, even the repetitiveness holds a precious mission. Same thing when we work in our jobs, serve in our church, tend to our household chores, take care of our family members. Our spiritual conscience will give us a fixed perspective amidst our wavering conditions to live out our dignified lives for the Lord in our fields.

So brothers and sisters, what is the state of your spiritual conscience today? Are you often tapping on it or is it time to pull it out from the rubbles of our own sins? Now it is never too late to learn how to sow to our spirit. The Lord cares for us, so as we hear this message, let us come out of any areas of self deception and let the Lord shed light on the way we should go. God bless.
