- not outcome transformation, but character transformation 

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:1-11 NIV)

1. If you are a genuine believer --> automatically leads to the character (a checklist if you have understood and applied the grace of God)

• • Your election is confirmed by your progressive sanctification 
  • Human -> 
    • God's image reflection to the world 
    • Give praise and worship to God because of what you have portrayed to them
    • We have the dignified purpose to be God's image bearer -> you are God's spokesperson 

• Ineffective, unproductive 
• Near sighted / blind - unable to understand God's perfect will, thus easily shaken by Satan's lies 
• Stumble (yourself and other people) - you easily become the channel through which satan works through you, and other people 

• Do not just merely know you r going to heaven, you will also prepare for it

• 2 peter 1:5-7: 8 qualities - faith and love are the key cornerstone for the entire character
  • Faith - the root of all virtues (= relationship with God); with r/s HS in dwells us -> have the desire to do what pleases God, and we can be empowered to do the impossible 
    • Not only salvational faith, but day to day faith 
    • Humble 
  • Love 
    • Col 3:14 - the one that binds ALL virtues (And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:14 NIV)
    • Only love can make one have courage to let go, sacrifice and persevere 
    • The only way to evangelise better than others is love
    • Satan can do all things but Love God and man
    • X lose and gains, conditional, only confined to flesh and blood, carnal, limited 
    • Christ's love
      • Creator die for the created; sinless die for the sinner 
      • When you are forgiven much, you love much - be loved (find God's love first) 
  • Goodness - fallen virtue vs God -pleasing
    • If HS doesn't convict you, you won't do good 
    • You only make yourself outstanding if you do it out of your own (self-exaltation) 
    • god pleasing virtue will bring you to god and kingdom focused (away from self)
  • Knowledge - not a blind virtue but grounded on the true and perfect will of God
    • Wisdom to discern what is the right thing to do 
  • Self-control
    • Do not misuse your Christian freedom 
    • Difficult to exercise without the help of HS
  • Perseverance 
  • Godliness - the knowledge and truth of God in you (love what god loves, hate what God hates)
  • Mutual affection - love your brethren in Christ, have the burden and compassion for them

1. Relationship with Christ - let His character touch us and shake us.
   • god has given us everything we need to lead a godly life 
     1. Truth / promise (light = tell you the good vs evil! what is beneficial and not)
     2. HS = counsellor, as long as we are willing to turn to him and listen to the conviction, have the wisdom
     3. Example of Christ 
2. Partner with God (synergic)
   • Is your choice important if God is the enabling one?
   • Choose to be partner with God!
   • *spiritual laziness is obvious 
3. Sufferings 
4. Guarding our hearts and minds -> because it shapes your emotions, decisions and actions 
   • The heart is the wellspring of life
5. Keep good company (1 for 15:33)(2ti 2:22)
6. Continue 

It will be tough initially, but it will get easier because HS will help you
