The Path of Happiness (7/5/15)

"It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy what we have that determine the happiness.” - Charles Spurgeon

<Psalm 1>

1. Path & Destiny of Wicked
Wicked = Sinners/Mockers

1) Slippery path <Psalm 1: 1>
Walk -> Stand -> Sit (Going through the world of sinners/mockers)
*Devil is always tempting one to walk, stand and sit with the wicked.
*Using particular triggers/pitfalls that cause one to forget God.
When you are able to identify your triggers/pitfalls, your path will not be so slippery. You can foreseen it.

2) Destiny
Chaff:
- Not remembered <Psalm 37>
- Don’t carry weight (X authority - Hence, easily manipulated)
- Useless for the kingdom
- Unable to bear any fruits (whatever they do, they will labour in vain)
<Psalm 1: 5-6> Judged and led to destruction (eternally)

3) What are the slippery paths in us (our life)?
It is not just about the triggers/pitfalls/actions, the worst are the well-concealed disbeliefs within our hearts.
The ways of the world and religions on dealing of the slippery paths are different from Christ - It is all about moral and human determination.

To deal them in the way of Christ, we need to be first empowered.
(1) Believe that the law of sin has no hold on you - Have the potential to reject sin
Two extreme paths of slippery route: (1) Too hard, don’t try. (2) Too easy, why bother?
**We need to know that Satan is not a too easy or too hard opponent. If not, we will tend to let loose. Pray not to fall to either extreme.

2. Blessed = Happy

1) Don’t be similar to wicked
At least you try to be.

2) Delights and mediate on God’s laws (promises) <Deut 30: 6>
(1) How can one delights on the laws?
- You must see the laws as the protection. <Lev 20: 26>
- Laws tell you who you are.
- Laws tell you about Christ and His works <Luke 24: 27> <John 5: 39> <Hebrews 7: 27>

(2) Meditate: Prayer <-> Word <James 5: 16>
Is our prayer grounded on the word of God?
Meditation = Acknowledge and fear God in every single thing you do and say.
Through meditation, you are prepared for the slippery paths, and you are able to connect your situations to God’s words easily.
**Link: Head + Heart / Intellect + Feeling

3) Evidences of a blessed one
(1) Prospers <Jer 9: 23-24> - not about having wealth, health and wisdom. Prosperity is measure in God’s terms not ours - Eternal prosperity (being able to be with God eternally).
(2) Fruitful = H.S, spiritual and able to save souls
(3) Not wither = Not spiritually dry

3. What is the key to happiness?
Not to be too preoccupied by the “do not”, simply continue to chase for holiness - love God and love others.
Do not focus on what you cannot do, focus on what God can do. This is not positive psychology - this is the empowering of God.
We can be weak, but in your weakness, you can still mediate and delight in the Lord.
