<Matthew 3: 13 - 17; John 1: 29 - 34>

1. Why Jesus Christ needs to be baptised?

1) Wrong teachings:
(1) Baptism is needed to make Him God, because He is born as human.
(2) Baptism is needed to remove His sin. But <1 John 3: 5>.

2) “Fulfil righteousness” -> As God wants to be identify with us (able to relate to us).
(1) Getting baptised is the right thing to do for Him - Following the will of God.
(2) Water: Repentance - Willingness to reject sin and turning to seek God.

<Hebrews 4: 14 - 16> JX, friend of sinners.
As He is tempted in every ways, just like we are, JX is able to empathise.
He is tempted, but yet without sin -> Atoning sacrifice (sinless died for the sinners)
This is really important as without seeing JX’s empathy towards us, we will start to lose heart.
Sin doesn’t want us to continue to indulge in sins - we have to “long for” sinlessness.

What is one evidence that we are clearly experiencing the grace and mercy of Christ?
He/she will surely have a fruit of submission - to our benefactor, Christ, alone.

3) Inauguration (opening ceremony) of Jesus Christ’s atonement for our sins.

4) Transition between John (Great man) to Jesus (Son of God) - A whole new timetable
Sin/judgement to Forgiveness, hope, eternity and grace.

2. Why does Jesus Christ need the anointing of HS?

1) Human side of JX
So that the HS can help Jesus complete His mission on earth.

2) So that HS will be intensely involved in our lives!
Baptism of HS: Born again.
However, we are often lack of the spirit that can be touched. To go against this:
(1) Love word of God
(2) Seriously acknowledge the truth
(3) Heard enough -> Quiet down
(4) Confirm God’s words asap if not it will become “unreal” - BUT HOW? Through fixed time, all time and focused time prayers.

3. Direct/Personal affirmation of God

1) God announces JX as HIs son but He is also a suffering servant.

2) Hence, we also need to acknowledge/witness for JX.

3) If you are a living example of Christ, God will give us affirmation (both physical and spiritual).
