Find Rest for Your Souls <Mt 11:25 - 30>

the way human finds rest is not a simple affair

“get to bond with creator of our soul” - unless we find this, and bond with creator

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you (despite being rejected - how often we still praise Him in contrary events. But Jesus praised Lord, because He finds rest in God, and He knows God is still God), Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned (proud, who sees no need to depend on God), and revealed them to little children (means someone who is not self-sufficient. they still need to depend on parents for support. can we acknowledge that we cannot take care of ourselves, we cannot save ourselves). 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do [even in opposition - God is not victimised by our circumstances].
27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.[invitation]29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

know Him without pre-conceived definitions of God -> then only we will know God intimately and incrementally

Gods sovereignty and Human’s will

God does not need your faith to feed his sovereignty/power.
But when we respond to His sovereignty, his power/grace becomes ours.
Jesus acknowledge God’s sovereignty and invite us to respond

Weary? -> Find Rest in Christ
- weary: tired from searching for truth, for upholding a clear conscience, to fight accusations, burden of the world, depending on selves
  1. first discover God loves us
  2. have confidence that jesus will provide for our needs sufficiently [whatever we need, God will give me]
  3. assurance of eternal life  [what is tar’s uncertainty compared to the eternity that God has secured]
  4. purpose - when cannot find real meaning to life, you will be restless [do we know the meaning of our existence]

A. Find rest in the knowledge of God’s truth - God loves you, don’t worry about tmr

B. Rest comes from holiness / submission

C. True rest comes from intimate fellowship with God - prayers

Rest and Yoke?
yoke = paradox? it’s a weight, being bound
how can a burden be light when it has weight?

Christian life is both resting and battling.
our heart is not inclined to seek God, and find rest in jesus. so we need to battle with elements that pull us away from Jesus.

relationship comes with submission. it is not exempted from struggles, but he will make them more manageable as Christ gives us strength (yoke is light)
- same demand (fr holiness), different strength (not by your strength) = though we are weak but HE is strong (that is why the yoke is light & easy)  -> then energised to do the will of God

rest comes from a humble heart to receive this blessing from God [revealed to children]
our response to God to rest in Him?
