God Confused The Proud

God Confused The Proud

The Strength To Put Your Treasure Rightly

The bible says “And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well” In this life, what spurs you to do what you are doing? Be it studying, working, living with family and loved ones - what causes you to make certain decisions, give up certain things for the others? If the treasure in your heart is on the tangible things, that reflects your value in life. What ever actions you do or decisions you made, all are for the pursuit of the tangible things your heart desire. If the treasure in your heart is on the kingdom of God, the knowledge of God in you will propel you to eat, drink, talk and work for the sake of gospel today. If you have already known the truth yet you are unable to taste the joy of submission in all things today, continue to seek God by going into deeper and more intense prayer, for God will leave no stones unturned if the children seek to confirm His truth in all things.

God Confused The Proud

Have you ever been played out by your pride before? Pride told you that everything is manageable without God, you are fine on your own, but things didn’t turn out as expected, disappointments set in, the very outcome you tried to avoid became reality. Pride is always associated with folly. Pride made humans feel that God is unnecessary and optional. Yet, pride is one horrible sin in God’s eyes and He frustrates the plans of the proud. Let us always remember the wise and true words in <Psalm 127:1>:
“Unless the Lord builds the house,
    the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.”

Verses To Read:

<Genesis 11: 1-9>

1. Humanism

1) Human-centred, Human-driven

2) The culture of Babel is “Humanism”.

3) Hidden within Humanism is PRIDE

  • City: Security, comfort
  • Tower: Pride

2. Human plan VS God’s plan.

1) God’s intervention >> Turning point <v5>.

2) God frustrates the plans of the proud…easily.

  • Godlessness is folly.

3) Result of being irreverent: Confusion.

3. Do not be influenced by the Babel culture.

1) Be united for the right reasons.

  • For Gospel: ?
  • Oppose God: ?

*Disunited without God; united in Christ.
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” <Gal 3:28>.

2) Be set apart from the Babel culture.

Reflection:

  • Despite being a Christian, is it easy for you to become humanistic again? Why do you tend to be more human-driven rather than God-driven? Usually, when are you more prone to become humanistic?
  • Had God ever, and how did He, intervene in your life when pride is lurking? How had God ever tamed your pride?
